The water sample to be tested undergoes pretreatment, where the nitrogen-containing compounds in the water sample are converted into nitrates in an alkaline potassium persulfate solution. Nitrates have characteristic absorption at specific ultraviolet wavelengths, and the degree of color change is proportional to the content of reducing substances in the water sample. The analyzer detects this color change and converts it into a total nitrogen value output.
