The water sample to be tested undergoes pretreatment. Under high temperature and alkaline conditions, potassium persulfate is used as an oxidant to oxidize ammonia nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, and most organic bound nitrogen in the water sample into nitrate ions. The nitrate ions react with the color developer in a strong acid medium to produce a light yellow substance with characteristic absorption at a specific wavelength. The degree of color change is proportional to the content of reducing substances in the water sample. The analyzer detects this color change and converts it into the value of total nitrogen output.
